Myofunctional Therapy for Children
Signs your little one may need and evaluation…
Why Oral Function Matters
Children grow and develop rapidly, and the way they breathe, swallow, chew, and rest their tongue can play an important role in their overall oral and facial development. Myofunctional therapy helps children build healthy habits by improving the function of the tongue, lips, cheeks, and facial muscles.
At Peninsula Myo, each child receives a personalized treatment plan in a positive, age appropriate environment designed to support healthy growth and long term function.
The tongue is a powerful muscle that helps guide oral development. When the tongue rests properly against the palate, the lips stay closed, and nasal breathing is encouraged, children are better supported in developing healthy oral patterns.
When children breathe through their mouth, rest with their lips apart, or swallow with a tongue thrust, the muscles of the mouth and face may adapt in ways that affect dental development, facial growth, sleep quality, and orthodontic stability.
A Team-Based Approach
Children often benefit from collaborative care. Depending on your child’s needs, we may work alongside dentists, pediatric dentists, orthodontists, ENTs, lactation consultants, speech-language pathologists, bodyworkers, or other healthcare professionals.
This team approach helps support the whole child, not just one symptom.
